How can I make my car shine like glass?

How to Make an Old Car Shine Like New with Car Polish

When you purchase a new car, you always want to maintain that new shine and stunning look. However, a car’s overall impression also applies to its appearance and performance, both internally and externally. You may find yourself worrying about your new vehicle concerning its glossy look and natural appearance. There are ways in which we take care of our automobile via regular washes, engine enhancement, protective gears, among many others.

The reason behind investing time and effort in this ritual is to ensure that your car sustains its normal wear and tear without losing its durability. This can provide a longer lifespan for the vehicle. When it comes to car polishing that you usually get during your car wash, importance has to be given to this restoration process. The polishing takes steps and involves necessary products to provide your old car a new-like shine.

Things used for the perfect car polish:

When you decide to get your car polished by a professional, the process to restore the paint starts with products like car wash solution, wax, water hose, tire foam, cleaners, sponges, brushes, and clothes. These are essential for good car polish, and a professional would have the insight to use the right kind of products to suit your car.

The procedure of car polish

When it comes to restoring the color of an old car, it can be a tedious process to undertake. However, a quick rundown of the steps involved are given below:

Start with a Clean Slate

The most crucial step in this process is a good car wash. First, a thorough interior-cum-exterior cleaning needs to be done. This stage involves brushing dust off the interiors, vacuuming carpets, seats, and every touch area, using professional cleaning agents, wiping glass, removing stains oil marks on your car’s surface, etc.

Car Wash

Why does my car feel unstable?

Starting with a hosepipe and water spray, the actual car wash kicks in. This step aims to remove the dirt present on all surfaces. For a complete experience, it is vital to cover wheels, tires and bends covering every corner of the car.

Cleansing and Drying

The next step involves using the cleaning solution recommended by professionals. Once the dirt stops are covered, the tires are nicely cleaned, and small sections are targeted to avoid air-drying and surface contamination.

Car Polish

The polishing process begins once the car is completely dry and surface scratches are covered. Approved gel or solution is used to fill spaces in marks. While the main aim for car polishing is to remove minor scratches, a good polish tends to give a finished look to the car. The car wax adds a glow to this ultimate step.

After washing the car, the first product you should reach for is, polish. The primary purpose of polish is to remove minute imperfections such as dirt, grease, and oxidation from a car’s paint that, in many situations, regular washing cannot remove. Polish also prevents minute scratches, scrapes, and swirls. In addition, the various properties of car polish, such as buffing, smoothing, and proper filling helps achieve an extra shiny look.

Quick Tips

Polishing and waxing a car properly is not a challenging task, but it does take time and energy, and with the right tools and methods, the outcome can be rewarding. For instance, it is never good to polish or wax a car in direct sunlight; comfortable shade ensures that the product stays more effective.

What drives the value of property?

Using too much polish or wax can make the coat uneven and, in some instances, unattractive. Using a microfiber towel to wipe away excess product accomplishes the result without causing microscopic scratches.

It is essential to bear in mind the number of times you get your car polished. Usually, scratches or marks demand to shine; however, the act maintains the new impression of the automobile extending its life. Polishing with Multi-Stage Paint Correction

Depending on the degree of imperfections on the paint, you may need to do two stages of polishing. If the paint has been looked after properly or the car is relatively new, you may only need to do the second stage below.

Stage One: The first stage is more abrasive and will remove swirls and light scratches. Some paint or clear coat is permanently removed and too much can damage it. Cutting pads and cutting compound are used.

Stage Two: is all about bringing back the shine. A smaller amount of clear coat is removed. Softer foam pads and finishing polish are used.

What you do before and after these two stages is also vital to getting good results. Paint should be spotlessly clean before starting and protection should be added after.

Tools for Polishing a Black Car

  • Dual Action Polishing Machine. You won’t get perfect results without a polishing machine. Dual Action is the best.
  • Cutting and Finishing Pads. Microfibre cutting pads are needed for paint correction and soft finishing pads are needed to shine and mirror-like reflection.
  • Cutting Compound. Needed for correcting swirls and scuffs.
  • Finishing Polish. Needed to refine the finish and bring back gloss and reflection.
  • Swirl Remover contains both compound and polish in one product
  • Microfibre buffing towels. Soft clean buffing towels are great for removing polish.
  • Paint Surface Cleanser. Helps clean the surface before and after polishing. Use an IPA cleanser or a product like Gyeon Prep.
  • Detailing Tape. Polish can spatter everywhere and stain plastic and rubber trim. So it’s worth covering it with tape.
  • Inspection torch. Good lighting helps a lot. A torch or inspection light makes the job a lot easier as it can be hard to see how good the reflection is and if you are making progress.

Why preparation is so important

Preparing your car for polish is one of the most important steps. Washing your car will remove surface dirt but won’t remove bonded dirt. If your paint isn’t clean and contaminant free you will run into several problems…

  1. Polishing won’t be as effective and could take a lot longer.
  2. Bonded dirt can detach from paint and scratch it.
  3. Polishing pads can be damaged.

Your paint should feel super smooth before you polish it. And the best way to achieve that is by using a clay bar or other clay-type product. Remember, a clay bar could slightly mar the paint so don’t clay your car if you don’t need to.

Polishing Tips for Black Cars

  • Don’t let the machine sit in one spot for too long.
  • Don’t use too much pressure.
  • Try not to let the polish or pad dry out.

  • Check for heat every now and then. Too much heat can burn the paint.
  • Clean pads and buffing towels are a big help.
  • Check each section with an inspection torch.
  • Test using light polish and soft pad first. You may not need a heavy cut.
  • Haze can be a problem. APC or paint cleanser can help. Clean pads and clean paint.
  • Place pads in a bucket of warm water with detergent before the polish has a chance to dry
  • Don’t use a clay bar unless you need to, i.e. paint feels rough.
  • Read the instructions for whatever products you are using.
  • Use a mobile dent repair service to fix any dents.
  • Fix rock chips before beginning to polish.

Tips to improve your polishing skills

  1. If you have never polished a car before it might be worth finding an old hood or door panel in a junkyard to practice with.
  2. Buy a smaller backing plate and pads for use with small pads to work on narrow spots.
  3. Consider getting a mini polisher for even tighter spots
